Pollock Begg associate only family lawyer selected as one of 38 future leaders in Pennsylvania by The Legal Intelligencer
PITTSBURGH — Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz LLC associate Joseph R. Williams has been named to the list of 2013 Lawyers on the Fast Track by The Legal Intelligencer. Williams is one of 38 Pennsylvania attorneys chosen to receive this distinction, and the only family lawyer included on the list.
Nominees were evaluated on their contribution to the legal community based on professional and community involvement as well as peer mentoring and firm participation. Profiles of the honorees will be included in a supplement in The Legal Intelligencer on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Winners will also be honored at a dinner in Philadelphia in November.
What sets Williams apart from other young lawyers is the extent of his leadership and the breadth of his accomplishments, all achieved at the young age of 29. He started as a law clerk with Pollock Begg in 2008 and was promoted to associate after being admitted to the bar in 2009. Since then, he has rapidly risen within the ranks of both the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar associations and remains active in his alma mater, Duquesne University, where he serves on the Duquesne Law Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Williams was the youngest to serve during his tenure on the PBA Young Lawyer’s Division Executive Council and the ACBA Young Lawyer’s Division Council, and was the youngest member ever of the ACBA Family Law Section Council. In 2010, he was the youngest of 15 attorneys participating in the ACBA Bar Leadership Initiative Program. He has served as the liaison to Duquesne’s School of Law through the ACBA Young Lawyers Division and co-founded the Bar Buddies Program in 2012, which places graduating law students with a young lawyer mentor for assistance and stewardship during the summer in which the student prepares for the Pennsylvania Bar Exam.
Williams has also served on several roundtable discussions at the law school on topics including passing the bar exam, networking and career opportunities, and the practice of family law in Western Pennsylvania. Earlier this year, Williams was elected to serve as the ACBA’s Young Lawyers Division chair — a three-year-term in which he will serve one year as chair-elect, one year as chair, and the third year as past chair. His active professional career has also garnered him recognition as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Star in both 2012 and 2013.
