Pittsburgh divorce attorney Brian C. Vertz of family law firm Pollock Begg has been selected by his peers and named Best Lawyers 2019 Family Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Pittsburgh.
Best Lawyers lists are compiled based on an exhaustive peer-review evaluation. Vertz has definitely had a busy and impressive year so far, starting with teaching thousands of lawyers across the country on the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which overhauls the tax benefits of alimony, radically impacting divorce law. He is also scheduled to speak in the coming months on the landmark new ruling with the Hanrahan case on high-income child support. A nationally respected authority on family law tax strategy, Vertz released the 17th edition of Frumkes & Vertz on Divorce Taxation this year. He moved into leadership at the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Foundation, serving on its board of directors and ascended to president of the AAML organization, Pittsburgh chapter.
Best Lawyers, originally published in 1983, is derived from surveys in which leading attorneys submit votes regarding the legal acumen of other lawyers in their respective specialties. They are reviewed on the basis of professional expertise, and undergo an authentication process to make sure they are in current practice and in good standing. Lawyers are neither required, nor allowed, to pay a fee to be listed; therefore, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor.
