PITTSBURGH — Candice L. Komar, partner at Downtown-based Pollock Begg Komar Glasser LLC (Pollock Begg), will speak Friday, Dec. 2, at the Wecht Institute Forensic Fridays event. Komar will discuss the economy and how it affects valuations and income calculation in divorce cases. The seminar will take place at the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law at Duquesne University Law School, Room 204, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Titled“Is it ‘the Economy’ or is it Obfuscation? The Roles of Financial Experts in Divorce Litigation Today,” the seminar explores when a business owner takes advantage of the economic climate to suppress business value or show reduced income, or when a business owner simply does not have the “drive” to produce such data due to the emotional turmoil of the divorce.

Komar will be joined by forensic economist Matthew Marlin, and forensic accountant Melissa A. Bizyak to convey which industries are truly struggling, which are clearly not, and how such evidence can and does play out in divorce litigation today.

The seminar is part of the Forensic Fridays Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and Professional Education Series, geared toward offering the region’s attorneys, nurses, physicians and others a firmer grounding in many of the scientific disciplines upon which their work relies and their application to the criminal, civil and family justice systems.

This program is approved by the Pennsylvania CLE Board for two substantive and one ethics credits. In addition, three Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits are available in the accounting/finance field; three ACT 48 credits for Pennsylvania teachers are also available.

Pricing and registration information can be found at forensic fridays. Discounts are available for Duquesne University Alumni, government employees and groups of five or more. For more information, contact the institute via wechtinstitute@duq.edu or at (412) 396-1330.

Komar has more than 25 years of experience in family law, including considerable trial experience in Allegheny and surrounding counties, particularly in valuation of closely held business interests, complex support cases and custody matters. Komar has been named to the “Top 50 Women Attorneys in Pennsylvania” and the “Top 50 Attorneys in Pittsburgh” by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and was recently inducted into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law was established at Duquesne University in 2000. Through its collaborative partnerships, the institute offers several credit and/or continuing education programs.
