Joseph Williams Elected ACBA Young Lawyers Division Chair

PITTSBURGH — Divorce attorney Joseph R. Williams has been elected to serve as chair of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA). Williams, an associate at Downtown-based family law firm Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz LLC, will commence his three-year term on July 1, 2013.

This election marks the second election to office in the YLD in just three short years for Williams, who was previously elected to a seat on the YLD Council. Williams has also been appointed to seats on the Pennsylvania Bar Association YLD Executive Council and the ACBA Family Law Section Council and was recently elected to serve on the Board of Governors for the Duquesne Law Alumni Association.

Results came in May 13 from an election that ran for 15 days and was open to nearly 2,000 active members of the YLD. The organization is comprised of all lawyers who have been admitted to the practice of law for 10 years or less and provides young lawyers with a means of gaining broader participation in bar activities, a forum for continuing legal education, and a vehicle for social exchange with their contemporaries at the bar. Williams’ duties will include: appointing YLD members to committees and leadership positions; serving on the ACBA Board of Governors on behalf of the YLD members; representing the ACBA at American Bar Association conferences; and overseeing the general progress of the division at council meetings and through other functions.

Williams is a graduate of Duquesne University’s School of Law and an active member of the legal community. He authors materials for Continuing Legal Education programs as well as media outlets and was named to the 2012 and 2013 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Stars listings. Williams has rapidly risen within the ranks of both the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar associations and remains active in his alma mater, Duquesne University.
