July 16, 2018 | Community
Pittsburgh divorce attorney Brian C. Vertz shared his divorce tax law experience with attendees at the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section’s 2018 Summer Meeting in Hershey, PA.
Vertz, partner at Pittsburgh family law firm Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz LLC and co-author of the legal treatise “Frumkes and Vertz on Divorce Taxation,” moderated a plenary session on the impact of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2017 on the practice of family law.
A panel of professionals, led by Vertz, explored the changes to tax laws which impact family law practitioners, including alimony, dependency exemptions, itemized deductions and pass-through income.
Vertz is adept at explaining technical aspects of tax laws to clients and professionals alike and has been invited to educate legal professionals both locally and nationally about the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2017.
With an MBA and business valuation training in his background, Vertz concentrates his family law practice on divorce financial analysis, using his knowledge to benefit clients in cases involving closely held businesses, professional practices, executive compensation, and matrimonial tax issues. Vertz also publishes the insightful legal blog, FamilyLawTaxAlert.com, which provides current analysis on tax and financial issues for divorce lawyers and their clients.
Founding Partner David S. Pollock also moderated a panel on case law updates at the meeting on Sunday.
Pollock Begg encourages its attorneys to stay abreast of the newest changes in family law, not only taking part in continuing legal education programs, but also by teaching and engaging as thought leaders among their peers.
