Pollock Begg Sponsors Isabel Allende Lecture Presented by Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures

Our family law firm enjoyed the unique opportunity to sponsor the Isabel Allende lecture in the Ten Evenings series presented by Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures. The series brought to town authors whose topical works as director Stephanie Flom writes, “help us make sense of the confusing, often troubling, times we live in.”
Pollock Begg proudly sponsored the lecture in November of acclaimed author Isabel Allende, a native of Chile who is cherished both in her homeland as well as in the United States and is considered one of the most influential Latin American writers working today. With a myriad of honorary doctorates and awards, Allende has sold more than 56 million copies of her novels in 30 languages and written literary works adapted for movies, plays, musicals, operas, ballets and radio programs. She also established the Isabel Allende Foundation, which provides grants to organizations that secure reproductive rights and economic freedom, and prevent violence, for women. She just released her newest novel “In the Midst of Winter” in October 2017.
Founding partner Candice L. Komar introduced Allende during the evening’s proceedings and noted in her speech how Allende writes about the conflicting emotions we experience much more often than the simple ones and how those powerful emotions reverberate through generations.
“Connected to these emotions are our personal histories, where we come from physically, spiritually, politically, how we evolve as families and individuals, how the choices that confront us are often complex ones, not black and white,” she said. “We see evidence of these themes every day in our cases. Because at the end of the day, it is not about numbers, or percentages, or legal arguments. It is about people and that is what our firm is passionate about.”
Based in downtown Pittsburgh in the historic Frick building, Pollock Begg is the largest Pittsburgh-based law firm dedicated solely to family law in western Pennsylvania. We take our leadership responsibilities seriously, encouraging and emulating a philanthropic and civic-minded spirit. We believe in supporting community and charitable endeavors throughout Pittsburgh and encourage our staff and attorneys to participate in these worthwhile efforts as well.
